Child Slavery

Child slavery is a problem of epidemic proportions in India. 18.4 million people are held in slavery there with the average age of child slaves falling between 7 and 14 years old. It is a huge problem, but it’s a solvable one. Set Free works with a vast network of pastor partners to work on our three R’s: Rescued, Reunited, and Remaining.

Rescued: So far, Set Free has rescued over 30,000 children from slavery and other situations of abuse. We are not only able to provide physical freedom, but we are also able to offer true freedom in Christ. We currently have over 9,000 rescued children in our care.

Reunited: Many of these children rescued were taken as repayment for loans or even outright kidnapped. It is always our first priority to reunite children with their families provided it is safe for the child to do so. Around 50% of the 30,000 children we’ve rescued have been able to be reunited with their families.

If a child is unable to be reunited with their family, we launched our Trade Not Aid Program to empower these rescued children to build their lives and dreams. Since the beginning of this program, we have graduated over 300 students who are now financially secure on their own and did something unexpected – they gave back. Over $250,000 has been donated back into the program by rescued children, now young adults, who want to give back.

Remaining: In the area we are currently working in, there are 18,000 child slaves in 169 active mines. It is our goal to rescue them all, but we need more financial support to reach them. Donations of any size makes a huge impact in the life of a child. For just $58 a month, you can meet the needs of a rescued child in India. Your gift can be the one that enables us to rescue another children from slavery.
